Usually during ovulation, cervical mucus changes to allow sperm to swim through the mucus. Although its wide-spread use has helped many couples conceive, clomiphene citrate (CC or clomid) decreases cervical mucus production and quality ("egg-white” like consistency). In fact, women using CC are seven times more likely to have "hostile" cervical mucus that is difficult for sperm to penetrate than are women not on the medication.
Women taking CC also have an increased prevalence of vaginal dryness which can cause pain at intercourse and decrease enjoyment for the man (which can decrease sperm counts). Many women on CC are therefore also using lubricants that can harm sperm. These women may be creating a vaginal environment that limits sperm transport. Pre-Seed lubricant can replenish vaginal moisture without harming sperm. Many of the Users’ Stories sent into Preseed.com are from couples who were using Clomid and found that Pre-Seed relieved medication side effects, including dryness and poor fertile fluid production.
